Founder and Executive Chairman of the SCT board Peter Smith will be the special guest of an industry event in Wodonga in November.
Celebrating three years in Wodonga, SCT will host the event which will include presentations from ARTC and Wodonga Council Mayor Cr Anna Speedie and Q&A panel with SCT’s Geoff Smith, ARTC Chief Executive Officer John Fullerton and Wodonga Council Chief Executive Officer Mark Dixon.
The day will include a personal interview with the SCT founder in which Peter will share how he has managed the SCT business as a father, mentor and boss.
He has demonstrated a unique ability to apply business and leadership attributes that have pioneered change based on vision, innovation, courage and survival.
A man of action rather than words, Peter’s vision for SCT has seen it grow into Australia’s largest privately owned rail company.
In an unprecedented display of loyalty and respect for Peter and the company, the SCT group has maintained 40-year relationships with its pioneering customers while also innovating and improving to ensure it meets customers’ needs in a changing world.
Peter also pioneered the reintroduction of rail terminals that accommodate and provide direct rail access to customers for their distribution centres.
A rail terminal was a key pillar of the plan for Logic and the sale of the land to SCT in 2015 was the realisation of a vision 12 years in the making.
SCT bought an initial parcel of 23 hectares of land and has an option of 20 hectares more.
SCT invested $18m in the terminal which includes a 5000m2 cross-dock facility with direct rail access, a 6000m2 container park and 5km of internal rail track.
On September 26, 2016, SCT Group ran the special service to Barnawartha to be wagon ready to start up on October 3, 2016.
Fast forward three years and the Barnawartha terminal is through putting 2000 tonne and 58 wagons interstate per week as well as 80 import or export containers and running four services a week.
The SCT-hosted event in Wodonga will be held on Thursday, November 28 from 4pm at Huon Hill tavern with guests including representatives from major manufacturers from across the country.
SCT will also conduct a site tour of its Barnawartha terminal.
