Strength to strength

September 1, 2017

SCT’s Wimera Container Line (WCL) business based in Horsham continues to go from strength to strength. Record volumes in 2017 will see close to 25,000 TEU being exported through the Dooen Intermodal Terminal, by rail, directly into the Port of Melbourne.

WCL has operated the Wimmera Intermodal Freight terminal (WIFT) at Dooen since its opening. The

adjacent land is currently being developed with new tenants committed to setting up operations in advance of the 2018 harvest. This all goes well for future year-round rail volumes and extra employment in the precinct as more packers come on stream. Bulk rail consignments are also likely to be dispatched from the site in the years ahead, once site infrastructure is expanded. WCL’s permanent workforce has risen from 17 to 40 over the past 12 months with additional casual drivers also engaged in times of peak demand. A major equipment upgrade has been underway throughout 2017 with SCT investing in new trucks, trailers, reach stackers and empty container forklifts.
