It's happening: Scenic Rim Mayor John Brent, Wright MP Scott Buchholz and deputy prime minister
Warren Truss at the future site of a $30 million freight terminal which is set to kickstart the
Bromelton industrial estate.
UP to 1000 jobs will be created in the Scenic Rim after rail company SCT Logistics announced it
would build a $30 million freight terminal at Bromelton.
The sprawling 130-hectare freight facility will kick-start the long-awaited Bromelton industrial estate
and create about 125 jobs initially, expanding to 500 and eventually 1000 once the facility’s
masterplan is complete.
The intermodal freight facility will be built beside Beaudesert-Boonah Road on grazing land behind
the Beaudesert cattle sale yards and will utilise the existing dual gauge rail line between Brisbane and
The site is about six kilometres west of Beaudesert, and will be developed in several stages.
Once fully operational, the freight facility is expected to provide capacity for 1.3 million tonnes of rail
freight movements each year and would take about 18,500 truck journeys off metropolitan highways.
Scenic Rim Regional Council hopes the terminal will draw other major companies to the region,
potentially creating thousands of jobs and driving major economic growth in Scenic Rim.
The project was unveiled on Monday by Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss alongside Wright MP
Scott Buchholz, Scenic Rim Mayor John Brent and Beaudesert MP Jon Krause.
The project will be funded with the help of a $9.6 million federal government grant as part of the
National Stronger Regions Fund and SCT Logistics, Australia’s largest private rain company, will
fund the remainder.
Construction is set to begin by the end of 2016 with the terminal likely to be open in early 2018.
An emotional Scenic Rim Mayor John Brent shed tears prior to the announcement and told the
Times the project was a huge milestone for the region.
“This is big. This has been a long time coming. At times I didn’t think it would happen but here we
are. I’m ecstatic, just ecstatic,” he said.
"This is a breakthrough moment for Bromelton and the start of a new era for Scenic Rim, with a stateof-
the-art intermodal facility anchoring the expansion of the area.”
Wright MP Scott Buchholz said the freight facility was one of the most significant investments the
region had ever seen.
“I’ve had an enormous amount of people ask me when this was going to happen and I know how
important it is to people of Wright. I’m very proud to say we have been able to make it happen,” he
“This will kick-start Bromelton. It is a good day.”
Mr Buchholz vowed to ensure SCT Logistics employed as many local people as possible at the
